Micro Needling vs Tixel: Which One Is Right for Your Skin?
By Dr. Sarita Nair, BODi Louisville
Many clients ask about the difference between Microneedling and Tixel, and which treatment works best for their skin concerns. Both treatments are effective, but they work in very different ways. Here’s a simple and clear breakdown to help you understand what each one does and when it’s the right choice.

What Micro Needling Does
Micro Needling uses tiny needles to create micro-channels in the skin. These controlled micro-injuries trigger collagen production, which helps your skin repair and renew itself.
Best for:
-
Acne scars
-
Fine lines
-
Uneven skin texture
-
Large pores
Downtime:
About one to two days. You may see mild redness, similar to a light sunburn.
Pain level:
Mild. Most patients tolerate it easily with numbing cream.
What Tixel Does
Tixel is different from Microneedling because it uses heat, not needles. The device gently transfers thermal energy to the skin, which tightens and resurfaces the treated area.
Best for:
-
Eyelid tightening
-
Skin texture issues
-
Crepey skin
-
Fine lines and wrinkles
Downtime:
About three to five days. The skin may feel warm and slightly rough as it heals.
Pain level:
Moderate. Most patients do well with numbing, but it is more intense than Micro Needling.
So, Which Treatment Should You Choose?
It depends on your concerns:
-
If you want smoother texture, improved acne scars or smaller pores, Micro Needling is a great option.
-
If you want tightening, especially around the eyes, or improvement in crepey or aging skin, Tixel may be the better choice.
